In the 1920's the Hall family extensively landscaped this bushland site with dry walling, steps and retaining walls of sandstones and terraces. The bushland adjoined their home in Hessel Place. In December 1959 Mr Machin Hall & Mr Charlie Welch gave nine hectares of land located at the end of Barina Crescent as a public reserve which was named Bellbird Reserve. The reserve was home to a Bellbird colony, one of only two in the Sydney district.
