Farley and Lewers began operating around 1948 extracting gravel from the river. In 1958 the company purchased Eric Boyce's dairy farm on Farrell's Lane at Castlereagh. Farley and Lewers were one of five parent companies involved with the Penrith Lakes Scheme. The man in the centre is Dick Snell.
