James Noble was born in Belfast Ireland in August 1840. He arrived in Victoria in 1867, before moving to NSW and Penrith where he opened a drapery store in Railway House. He left Penrith for a short time but returned to open a business on the corner of High and Woodriff Streets. He retired to his home, Hedsor on the corner of North and Woodriff Streets, leaving in 1907 to live in Mosman. He was a Justice of the Peace and Treasurer of the Nepean Cottage Hospital. He died in September 1911.
