W. J. Rowe built the Nepean Boat shed near the Log Cabin from which he launched a new steamer in 1898 after it had been transported to Penrith by rail. The boats and steamers would regularly take passengers up and down the river on pleasure cruises, where they would stop along the river for picnics, fishing and camping.
