Penrith Lakes began as a series of quarries which had operated since the 1880s. By the 1970s quarrying was begining to cease and in 1979 the various quarrying companies formed the Penrith Lakes Development Corporation which began the process of rehabilitating the area and turning it into a series of lakes and parks. Landers Inn can be seen in the background on the right. The new section of Castlereagh Road can be seen on the left.
