View looking east. The gantry across the road is part of a continuous ropeway that was constructed from McCanns Island on the Nepean River at Emu Plains to the dam site at Warragamba. It supplied the site with sand and gravel from Castlereagh. The ropeway ran for nineteen kilometres and carried 600 buckets. The ropeway was locally known as the flying fox.
