Brilliant Pageant - Penrith Victory Day Celebrations

A detailed description of the Victory Day celebrations - procession, sport and carnival, attended by two thousand persons. Names of officials and organisers are included, as well as those of many participants. The procession comprised forty-odd picturesque floats, numerous decorated cars and bikes, and comic turnouts, many of surpassing merit. Details of many are included, followed by a list of prize-winners and the names of their floats. A section of High Street was closed off for the night carnival, which included street dancing, community singing etc. St Stephens Church and Tower were floodlit and a Union Jack was flown on the tower.
