An early part of Emu Plains was Emu island - One of the first maps of the area marked a spot where three cassowaries were seen - We know there is not an island between the Nepean River and the Mountains but one theory for the name is that the area was seen when then river was flooding backwards and the floodwaters formed an island - Photo.
