The official nomination of candidates to fill the 3 vacancies rendered necessary through the proclamation increasing the number of Alderman from 9 to 12. Nominations: Thomas Joseph Cross; Richard Benaud; William Fleming; William Charles Fulton jun; Patrick O'Connell; Lewis Litton. Nomination of Mr Cross was formal, but not in accordance with the Act, so was not accepted. Cross asked Mayor, T R Smith, for written reasons for refusal, but request was refused by Mayor.
