St Joseph's convent once stood on the north-east corner of Evan and High Streets - In 1880, the sisters of St Joseph opened a school in Penrith - first in the old, slab Catholic school behind the church and later in the building they had erected on the corner - This was the first school opened by the sisters of St Joseph since they came to New South Wales.
