The first Emu Plains railway station opened in August 1868 but quickly became inadequate for the community's needs. The new Emu Plains station building was erected in 1883 opening on 22 November 1884. It contained the stationmaster's residence as well as a waiting room and booking office. A picturesque Gothic building, the station features a steeply gabled roof, paired chimneys, heavily moulded details, cantilevered stair, balcony and bay window.
