Local History Calendar 2023 - Now Available!

Love the photos from @Penrith City Library’s Flashback Friday? You’re going to love taking them home in the form of the 2023 Local History Calendar! The Research Services team has mined the Photographic Collection archives for pictures of a handful of Penrith’s suburbs. The calendar explores the origins of the names of a few suburbs including Emu Plains, Penrith and Regentville.

The Calendar is available at all three Penrith City Library branches for $5. For similar photos, visit Local Archives to access the Photographic Collection.

Discovering some of our historical churches and cemeteries

The Penrith and surrounding areas have a number of historically significant churches and cemeteries, important due to their age and connections with the early colony and the settlers that came to the Penrith district. The Library currently has a display which uncovers the local history of just some of the more interesting ones showcasing photographs held in our Penrith City Library Photographic Collection. Local government information

Our Technical Library is a collection of support material for Council staff and can be accessed by the general public in the Research Room. This collection reflects the functions of a local government authority with substantial material on enviromental, planning and social issues.

Hawkesbury Nepean Catchment Management Trust environmental information

This collection was created, catalogued and maintained by HNCMT Information Centre at Windsor until June 30 2001. When the Trust closed part of its collection was transferred to Penrith City Library.

History Support Collection

Our collection of support material includes published historical reports and histories. It also houses the Francis James Collection, which contains a wide range of materials relating to the Vietnam War.
