The rotunda was built in 1922 as a memorial to soldiers of World War 1. It was designed by Sydney architect Alexander Carfrae and built by Eli Exley. It was opened by Sir Charles Rosenthal on 18 November 1922. Victoria Park started out being called O'Connell's Square after it was given to the village of South Creek by Maurice O'Connell in the 1840s. It was also known as Victoria Square. In 1872 the park was sold but was returned to the community after they contested the sale in the Supreme Court.
