Seated from left to right are Mr J Colley, Locomotive Inspector; J W Culnane, District Traffic Inspector; P Roberts, Permanent Way Inspector and R. Dews, Permanent Way Sub-Inspector. The railway arrived in Penrith in 1863 and grew to be the third largest depot in NSW. The railway precinct comprised many locomotive and maintenance sheds, loading yards, turntables and a coal elevator. Staff included supervisors, engineers, drivers and maintenance men.
