The mature plantings surrounding this early twentieth century cottage are important to the riverscape and represent remnants of the original cottage garden. The property was purchased in the 1940's by artists Margo & Gerald Lewers, who then created the large garden. The gallery was bequeathed to Penrith City Council in 1980 and the gallery opened in 1981. It is believed that prior to the Lewers purchasing the property it was a pig farm.
