The Hume : Australia's highway of history

Carroll, B.1983
Books, Manuscripts
Too many people zap along the Hume Highway as if their only objective is to get to the other end. That's no way to enjoy Australia's Highway of History, a road along which so much of our national history took place, where so many fascinating people helped make the Australia we know today. Read this book before you set out on your Hume Highway journey, and take it with you when you go, and you'll find many a reason to slow down, to stop, to get out and go walking, to take the occasional detour, even to linger for a day or two. It might even trigger you into setting out to see something in particular. Now that freeways run parallel to the highway for so much of the route, and so many towns have been bypassed, the Hume offers many a quiet spot away from the trucks and the frenetic traffic which gave it such a bad name for so many years.
