Includes bibliographical references (p. 101-113)In an assessment of the conservation status of freshwater Crustacea from Australian inland waters, a provisional list of 57 threatened species is provided. One species is deemed to be extinct, 4 are vulnerable, 25 are rare, 10 are indeterminately threatened and at least 20 are known only from their type localities and should therefore be regarded as insufficiently known. The threatened decapods are all freshwater crayfish, a diverse and comparatively well understood group of large crustaceans, some of which have commercial and recreational importance. Twenty of the species are recognised as having very restricted distributions or habitats which are or may be under threat. The remaining five species have broad distributional ranges which have, or in one case might, suffer considerable alterations to their available habitats and suffer from the effects of recreational fishing: Summary.Hawkesbury-Nepean Catchment Management Trust collection.
