History of Penrith

1949
Books, Manuscripts
A small book titled ‘History of Penrith’, describing the early days of the district up to the declaration of the Municipality of Penrith in 1871. The book is machine typed, with ink illustrations, and hand bound with cardboard, thread and cloth tape. It was created as a school project by Leonard Clarke in 1949. He was in Class 6B, most likely at Penrith Public School. The following year Leonard was enrolled in the newly-extended Penrith High School, Class 1F; prior to 1950 the school was Penrith Intermediate School and ran classes only up until fourth year (the equivalent of a modern Year 10).
