Ash and his friends arrive at an island town called Rota, where a festival is being held to celebrate Aaron, an ancient hero who averted a war. At the festival, Ash competes in a tournament to become the 'Aura Guardian' for the occasion. As part of the celebration, Ash is granted Aaron's staff, which contains his Pokemon companion, Lucario, whom Aaron had sealed inside the staff before stopping the war. When Pikachu is kidnapped by the powerful Mew, Ash and Lucario follow Mew to the Tree of World's Beginning in an attempt to rescue his friend.
