100 Years Attendance at Church

Articles
An Emu Plains woman, born the same year that the nearby Methodist Church was constructed, attended the centenary of the Church last Sunday. ( It was actually the Centenary Plus One of the Church.) Miss Elizabeth Lucas, six months short of her 100th birthday, and grandaughter of the first Sunday school superintendent, William Lucas attended the ceremony. 55 of the 185 people attending were members of the Lucas family. Records show that the church was built in 1862, but there is no foundation stone. Church records started in 1863, and they show the present pews were constructed in 1890. Rebuilding of the sandstone church in 1904 incouded work on the porch, new windows and replacement of tiles. A photograph of Miss Elizabeth Lucas accompanies this article.
