The Hawkesbury-Nepean Valley in western Sydney has a long history of flooding.In 2012, Warragamba Dam had a spill for first time in 14 years which again raised awareness about impact of flooding in major urban areas. The Hawkesbury-Nepean Valley Flood Management Review followed in 2013. A Taskforce was set up in 2014. In June 2016 the NSW Government adopted recommendations of the Taskforce which suggested raising the Warragamba Dam wall. This proposal is the focus on this Environmental Impact Statement which aims to provide flood mitigation for downstream communities through creation of a dedicated air space and does not change the full water supply level of the dam.
