Sites - ecology, birdlife - History of management, dedicated in 1917, by 1919 1026 hectares were dedicated, until 1960 only a few changes when 226 hectares were revoked to allow the building of a Child Welfare Department training school, in 1971 a further 389 hectares was taken for a metropolitan liquid waste disposal facility, 1988- 448 hectares remain which is mostly ironbark forest. A greater proportion of the forest was harvested during 1940-1975, particularly for poles during the war. Since the 1940s Herb Luxford (photo p. 8) has held a licence to cut timber. he harvested 140 cubic metres of timber a year. Also a conifer seedling nursery was established in 1919-1920, Pine trees were planted in 1920s and 1930s. Gravel for road base was also taken during the war.
