The Clean Waters Act, 1970, makes provision for the classification of waters, the broad objectives being to prescribe the degree of protection required for particular waterways, so as to preserve their quality consistent with the needs of users. Classification of waters is a continuing process. This publication records information on those waters which have been classified under the Clean Waters Act up to 31 December 1979.
