The Seniors Group of Surveyors, at its June Meeting in 2001, resolved that the involvement of the Land Surveyors and their contribution to the first settlement, and the history of development of this State should be recorded. This project was aptly named “The Pathfinders” a task that was taken up by Brian McCloskey assisted by Bill Moore, two of the foundation members of the Seniors Group of Surveyors. The Office of the Surveyor-General and the Department of Lands, were responsible for the planning of and the use of land, the administration of land districts, the recording of land grants and transfers of ownership of land form the days of the original settlement. It followed that these records became an important part of the research for this project. The Seniors Group of Surveyors is grateful to the support and assistance that has been extended to us by the Office of the Surveyor-General and the Department of Lands in the production of the “Path Finders”.The research for this project has taken other pathways through many archives and storage venues in pursuit of Government Gazettes, Departmental records, public records, records of articled pupils, the records associated with the licensing examinations by Boards of Surveyors as well as many personal interviews and details supplied by members of the surveying profession. The release of this Compact Disk marks the completion of the initial stage. This release contains a listing of all the Appointed/Licensed/ Registered Surveyors from the first settlement till this year 2005
