Orphan Tabitha, running away from her scheming grandmother, naively encounters problems which land her in gaol. Transportation follows, and the harsh conditions onboard the convict ship are lessened when she impresses the captain. After their marriage, the captain decides to abandon seafaring and open a school, helped by his young bride. Will Tabitha's harsh beginning have a happy ending?
