On advice from the NSW government, a decision was taken by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) in November 1996 to exclude canoe Slalom discipline from the 2000 Olympics. The International Canoe Federation (ICF) has sought assistance from Penrith City Council in presenting a case for reinstatement of slalom canoe in Olympic program. LRM Australia was engaged by Penrith City Council and the International Canoe Federation in June 1997 to undertake an independent investigation of the feasibility of the proposed facility.
