He later lived there after the war with his wife (Pete Slack-Smith), before moving to 'Huddersfield', a property in north-western Queensland. First ancestor was convict James Evans, who arrived in 1820. He married Isabella Irving at Castlereagh in 1823. First child was Williams Evans who married Eliza Colless in 1854 at Emu Plains. Second child Hannah married Thomas Player in 1854 at Emu Plains. James' second marriage to Mary Colless in 1836 at Castlereagh produced 12 children.
