Cumulative impact assessment (CIA) is the extension of environmental impact assessment beyond the project-specific level to analyse and assess a wider range of efects in time and space, taking account of crowding, synergism, indirect effects and loss of resources incrementally. It is a systematic and practical means for ensuring a wider and longer-term view is taken of all development. The purpose of this study was not to undertake CIA analysis as such or to establish definitive priorities, but to indicate methodology and possible next steps for the Trust.
