James Bardsley arrived in NSW as a convict in 1818. He married Sarah Gregg in 1821 at Windsor. He was tollkeeper at the Emu Ferry.

Includes documents relating to Emu Ferry or Punt; Emu Ford (at Jackson's mill); roads along Emu Plains up Lapstone Hill; the Government paddocks being fenced on either side of the new road up the mountains in 1830; people evading the toll by crossing the river at the ford when it is low.
