This website has been developed as a major educational resource to record the lives and works of artists in Australia. Andrew Mackenzie is one of Australia's leading art historians and is the curator of - In the artist's footsteps. The website has been created through the knowledge and care of Andrew Mackenzie and the participation of the artist's family members, moved on from only displaying images of great paintings, to providing access to previously unpublished personal letters and images. This will help generations in the future appreciate the intrinsic link between the artists, their families, friends, and the environment they so passionately painted. The site is currently arranged into the following categories - Lectures: It is intended to develop a series of on line audio interviews and lectures which can be listened to whilst people enjoy a walk In the artist's footsteps, and to include comments from descendants of the artist's to provide a personal perspective. -- Artists: which includes, in conjunction with the Victorian Coastal Council, a special project aimed at promoting the cultural, environmental and historical significance of Victoria's coast titled - Brushstrokes of the coast. Plus, information on the artists Sir William Dargie, Albert Namatjira, and a focus on the icon painters and artists of the Heidelberg School - Elizabeth Parsons, Jane Price, Clara Southern, Jane Sutherland, Mary Vale, David Davies, Eugene von Guerard, Frederick McCubbin, Charles Conder, Tom Roberts, Arthur Streeton, and Walter Withers -- Corporate collections: aimed at extending the awareness of these collections, their significance and the role corporate Australia is playing in preserving our heritage -- Auctions: developed to provide an understanding of the value our society places on art works and how art is traded throughout the world. In a way it also provides a signpost to the community today that it is important to encourage new generations of artists and to appreciate them whilst they are living -- Galleries: a range of galleries and libraries have provided their assistance and support for the development of the website in granting permission for reproduction of the images of the paintings on the website, links are provided -- the final section is a Press Centre to keep you up to date with developments on the site and the announcement of new programs and issues.
