TITANIC AT 100: MYSTERY SOLVED Hailed as the “unsinkable” ship, how did the Titanic so quickly and effortlessly reach its demise and why could 1,500 souls not be saved from the depths of the Atlantic? In April 2012, to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the sinking of the Titanic, HISTORY cracked the code to these and other unanswered questions by conducting the most extensive exploration and imaging of the Titanic wreck site.TITANIC’S ACHILLES HEEL In the summer of 2006, John Chatterton and Richie Kohler made a plan to return to the Titanic wreck to search for additional evidence that may confirm or deny Roger Long’s hypothesis. But when their research vessel that dived Titanic was suddenly recalled by the Russian government, the team was forced to regroup. Chatterton and Kohler decided to head to Greece to search for clues at the wreck of Titanic’s lost sister ship, Britannic.
