Tells the story of Doug Douligan, an Indigenous man caught between an undying allegiance to his people and his greater aspirations to be free from the deadly cycle of violence and self-destructive behaviour in which they live. Both buoyed and perturbed by his life-long friend, the charismatic larrikin "Pretty Boy" Floyd, Doug finds himself attracted to free spirited young Polly - presenting a future of possibilities. But Doug is made all the more aware of his precarious position by his white mother, and like it or not, must face his past in order to truly understand his heritage.
