Report of a special meeting of Penrith Council last night for the purpose of electing a Mayor for the ensuing year. Town Clerk E Orth was returning officer. Nominations were Ald T Jones, Mayor for the past 12 months; Ald William H W Hand; Ald Thomas D Clissold, who did not want the Mayoral Allowance of 25 pounds. Results were Jones 5, Hand 2, Clissold 2. Despite that a 2nd ballot was necessary under the ordinances. Ald Jones was duly elected as Mayor. He stated that had he known the others intended standing, he would not have. But now that he had been elected he would do his best. The Ordinary Meeting followed - separate report.
