In August 1898 Mr Tom Dickson, a member of the staff of Messrs. Methven Bros. Mt Druitt convened a meeting of Nepean cricket enthusiasts held at the Commercial Hotel and as a result the Nepean Cricket Association was formed.

First president - Andrew Thompson of St Marys, first secetary Tom Dickson. Competition was the Lees Shield (from Samuel Lees MLA) until Castlereagh Club won it three times. In 1921 the Association purchased a shield and called it the Evans Memorial Shield to perpetuate the memory of Ted Evans. Edwin Evans from Emu Plains was the first Nepean representative in an NSW XI and was selected for the Australian team to visit England.
