Thomas Turner was from Mayfield Sussex England. He arrived on the Amelia Thompson in 1838 with his brother Frederick. Thomas married Elizabeth Wells in 1840 who had arrived on the Orestes in 1839. They had one child, John who moved to St Marys. He married his cousin Hannah Turner who died in 1877. John then married Martha Cook. Robert Henry Turner was their 16th child. He grew up on a farm at Orchard Hills
