In 1985 Penrith City Council presented a submission for the commissioning of a study of the industrial heritage of St Marys NSW. Since that time Council has further developed this proposal and expanded upon the concepts.

This book traces the rise, the fall and the resurgence of Surry Hills from a scattered village to an inner-city neighbourhood.

This publication contains a list of maps and plans by the Surveyor General of the earliest surveys of New South Wales towns and villages, squatting districts, counties and parishes, roads, rivers, mountain ranges and explorers' expeditions.

This publication contains surveyors' notes taken during surveys. They include diaries of surveying expeditions, descriptions of natural features, sketches of farms, town allotments, roads, trigonometrical observations and triangulation surveys.
