The development of sewage treatment facilities for that part of Penrith draining to the Penrith Water Pollution Control Plant has occurred in stages since 1940. The most recent augmentation was commissioned in 1977. Stage 3/4 is less than 10 years old and can be expected to have a useful life of at least another twenty years taking it through to 2000.
