Michael Long was born in 1838. He was first elected to Penrith Municipal Council in 1876, serving as Mayor of Penrith from 1886 to 1888, 1891, 1899 to 1900 and 1903 to 1906. He died in 1926 and is buried at McCarthy's Cemetery at Castlereagh.
