The first Neale to start a business in Penrith was George Neale in 1841 in a building situated at approxiamately 139 High Street, Penrith. His grandson Henry J F Neale established the Nepean Stores on this site, 306 High Street, in 1882. In 1910 the building was replaced and expanded. By 1959 the store had been reduced and part of the building leased out. Neale's continued to trade at this location until 1987 when they moved to premises on Northern Road. The old building was demolished and a new office complex built. In 1994 Neale's ceased trading completely when John Cootes took over the Northern Road store.
