Emu Plains Sporting Club was originally known as Leonay Golf Club. The golf course was established by Leo Buring prior to World War 2. It ceased operation during the war but was reformed in 1946 and was known as the Penrith Golf Club. In 1964 Penrith golfers created their own club at Penrith. Leonay Golf Club reformed in 1968. A licence was granted and Emu Plains Sporting and Recreation Club began trading in April 1969.
