Nepean Rescue Squad was formed in 1975 and their headquarters was on the grounds of the Nepean Hospital. In 2001 they moved to new premises in Simeon Road Orchard Hills. They had a name change to VRA - Volunteer Rescue Association and are now the NSW State Emergency Service. Some of the foundation members were John and Gerard Buchtmann.
