St Marys Athletic Club and St Marys Rugby League club purchased nine acres of land from Henry Shaw as a sporting field. The shed was known as the Old Green Shed (seen in the background). The first game played on the grounds was in June 1956. The club remained on this site until the late 1970s when the club moved to new facilities in Forrester Road. The site would become the location of the St Marys Village Shopping Centre.
