The Duke and Duchess of York, George and Elizabeth made a brief stop at Penrith Railway Station on their journey to the Blue Mountains. Aldermen and over 2500 local people greeted them at the station where they were presented with a illuminated manuscript, flowers and local fruit. The Duke would later become King George VI.
