The people on the bridge are possibly members of the Heinrich family The bridge was built by the Metropolitan Water Sewerage and Drainage Board as part of the dam complex and was completed in 1960. The suspension bridge closed to the public in 1987. It remained in place until it was damaged by the Christmas 2001 bushfire. It was later removed for safety reasons.
