As Mayor of Penrith City Council, Rodney Field was larger than life. But the disappearance of the 36year old Mt Druitt solicitor four months ago reads more like fiction than fact. It brings laughter to some townsfolk and anger from other ratepayers who now face a $30,000 by-election for his vacated St Marys East ward seat on the council. His formal letter of resignation was presented at Tuesday's council meeting, along with a 40 minute cassette taped message, four months to the day after he vanished.
