In 1961 Pioneer, who were linked to Rio-Tinto, purchase farmland in Castlereagh such as Mouquet Farm owned by Donald Leitch and built their processing plant. The quarry supplied most of Pioneer's gravel, metal and sand requirements. It closed down in 2002.
