At the beginning of the 20th century, Liverpool 22 miles(35.680kms) south of Syndey, was a semi-rural town on the Main Southern line, very different to the heavily populated metropolis of today.  In the last decade of the previous century a proposed railway to the small rural hamlet of Mulgoa on the Penrith - Wallacia Road, 19 miles 22 chains (31 kms) west of Liverpool, was being considered.
