Penrith was declared a municipality in 1871, and for the first decade, meetings were held in a house on High Street. Subsequent chambers were built on the corner of High and Evan Streets. The chambers featured in this photograph were built in 1959, on the corner of Henry and Station Streets and remained the chambers until 1993 when Penrith City Council moved into the new Civic Centre in High Street.
