Wallacia Carry On Club began in 1940 and closed in 2005. In 1940, 24 women meet at Wallacia Hotel to form a club to support the 44 servicemen and 4 service women in World War Two. The club was named Wallacia Good Companions with Mrs Clarke as President and Mrs Downes as Secretary/Treasurer. The club was renamed in 1941 as Wallacia Comforts Club and in 1946 renamed the Wallacia Carry On Club. The following women were members in 1946: Mrs S Adams, Mrs R Adams, Mrs M Baines, Mrs W Bale, Miss P Bangel, Mrs E Baker, Miss E Breen, Mrs J Benson, Mrs J Crossman, Mrs A Dennis, Mrs S Downes, Mrs A Downes, Mrs M Easterbrook, Miss M Fowler, Mrs C Freeburn, Mrs R Grainger, Mrs N Harrison, Mrs E Henderson, Mrs R Holt, Mrs J Morgan Snr., Mrs J Morgan Jnr., Mrs J Mitchell, Mrs W Megarrity, Mrs F Miller, Mrs E Moxham, Miss H McManus, Mrs J McCall, Mrs S Medcalfe, Mrs C Monefiore, Mrs A Osbourne, Mrs H Pittendrigh, Miss C Ryan, Mrs E Shaw, Mrs L Shave, Mrs H Thornton, Mrs O Willmott, Mrs P Wholohan, Miss M Watson. In 1953 the Wallacia Progress Hall was built and meetings were held there. In 1946 Mrs Mabs Downes was elected President until 1993. Sandra Pettett was President from 1993 until 2003, replaced by June Roots until 2005. In 1956 Ruby Willmott was Secretary until 1999, replaced by Yvonne Fergeruson until 2003, with Elaine Bonning serving as Secretary until closure in 2005.
