What's your story?

Giannone, Rose2016
Books, Manuscripts
This history title for young school students is written in a picture book style format and provides an historical account of the extraordinary friendship between two unlikely characters. The book describes the relationship between a little orphan boy from England called Leonard, and his friendship with a little Aboriginal girl called Milba. The backdrop is the First Settlement and the book tells one of the many intriguing stories from the pages of Australian history. It also looks at the concept of friendship and the early relations between the First fleet settlers and the indigenous Aboriginal population. Told through the characters in the story, the book also reinforces and provides a platform for the exploration of the concept of History from different viewpoints. Australian History has many stories to tell. Upon arrival to the shores of Sydney, Leonard is intrigued by Australia's fauna as it is completely different to anything Leonard had previously seen, and the little Aboriginal girl called Milba is equally intrigued by Leonard. It is with this introduction that the story develops.
